Airport Interview Guide
No matter what airport you arrive to, there is likely
to be a convenient train connection. Train
transport is excellent in Germany, and though it might seem
expensive, there are usually various discounts available depending
on what age you are, what day of the week you will be traveling
and how far you are going. You can check the timetables online.
Within most cities and towns, there is an underground or light rail
system, and failing that, buses will get you wherever you need to
go.
Munich Airport
It takes 40-50 minutes by train (the S1 or S8) to
get to the city centre from Munich
Airport; The S1 approaches the city through the Hauptbahnhof
(Main Train Station) through west side while the S8 arrives in the
Ostbahnhof (East Train Station) on the east side though you can
connect to all the main train routes from either station.
You can find phone numbers for airport flights and taxi information
on our links and
addresses page.
To find connections to different stops, you can look
at the underground
and regional train map or the tram
map. If you're still too far away from your destination,
you can probably get a bus. Unfortunately I wasn't able to
find a map of the bus network, so if you come across one, let
us know. AutobusOberBayern
is the local bus firm if you need specific bus information. For
any other information about transport in Munich, check the Munich
Guide, The
Munich Portal (has information about tickets), or try
ringing some of the numbers on our links
and addresses page.
Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt
Airport is situated about 9 km from the city centre. Again,
you can get a U-bahn
or S-bahn into the city centre or the surrounding areas of Offenbach,
Hanau, Rüsselsheim, Mainz or Wiesbaden. For journeys farther
afield (50km-100km) away, there are other
trains. You can also catch Intercity trains to many other
German cities. More information about trains, buses and taxis
are available here.
Frankfurt
Hahn is further away from the city; the site provides good information
about flights
and onward
connections.
Berlin Airport
Berlin has three airports; Schoenefeld, Tegel, Tempelhof.
A new mega airport,
Berlin-Brandenburg International, will be in operation by 2007,
and will take over all traffic from the existing airports. http://www.berlin-airport.de/
has comprehensive information about the three operating airports,
including maps which show the connection with Berlin's
public transport network. You can plan
your connection here too.
Schoenefeld
18 km from the city centre. The site provides a map of
the connecting public
transport services.
Tegel
8 km from the city centre. You can only get a bus
connection from Tegel to either the U6 or U7 lines.
Tempelhof
6 km from the city centre. The airport is on the U6
line.
