Netherlands - Health
Visitors from EU/EEA countries are entitled to free/subsidised
urgent medical care so long as they present form E111 which can
be obtained from their own health services before visiting the Netherlands.
However, there are exceptions to E111 cover. If you intend to stay
abroad for some time, or are moving to Europe to live permanently,
then a separate form, E112, is more appropriate. This can also be
obtained from your local health board, which will explain to you
how to complete it and what treatment is covered.
It is necessary to take out health insurance for medical costs
not covered by the E111. You can do this with a Dutch company,
or with a company in your original country (this has the added benefit
of covering you in all the EU member states).
The Ministry
of Health website contains more in depth information about the
Dutch healthcare system, although nothing specific to foreign residents.
Persons earning below a certain salary per year (around 64000
NLG) can take benefit of the Ziekenfonds insurance which is the
state's Health Insurance Fund, in return for which they receive
subsidised medical, pharmaceutical and dental treatment, and hospitalization.
